Democratic Messaging

This is more of a scratch pad of ideas at the moment I’m afraid, but I’m aiming to come back and curate this as we get further into 2022.

Cliff’s Note version: Broken Record messages for 2022

About Democrats

We have a terrible habit of being Debbie Downers about our own party. No matter how high the deck is stacked against the electeds, we will find a way to single out Democrats for blame — ensuring the self-inflicted cycle of underpowered Democratic numbers in the next election, so the cycle continues.

It doesn’t do us any favors, and now is not the time to be playing “Love It or List It” with the potential last slate of candidates on Democratic Island. On top of that, Biden has accomplished a significant portion of his agenda in just one year — which is a rare feat in the modern presidency. Unfortunately, covid dystopia is not yet done with us, so a lot of people are feeling that and are going to blame Biden no matter what else happens — so those tides need to turn before we start seeing some more daylight here.

In the meantime, we can Be The Change we seek by highlighting some of the actual accomplishments instead of kvetching, for a change:

  • Fully vaccinated 200 million Americans, from a crawling start of 2 million (75% of US adults)
  • Added 6.4 million jobs
  • Cut unemployment from 6.4% to 3.9%, reducing unemployment claims by 70%
  • Passed the $1.9 trillion American Rescue Plan and the $1.2 trillion Bipartisan Infrastructure Law in year 1
  • Re-entered the Paris Accord on his first day in office, and centered the climate crisis as a pillar of the economic agenda
  • Expanded the ACA
  • Lifted 40% of poor children out of poverty

To Democrats

This is who not quite half the country really is. There’s no quick fix. We’re not going to snap our fingers and suddenly be done with fascism.

While many on the left have been ripping AG Garland a new one on the daily, I think we’re about to see the two ends of the vice grip come together soon, as the pincers close between the Department of Justice and the January 6 Committee in getting to the truth of what happened when Trump orchestrated a coup to overthrow the government.

But beyond all that — where else are you going?! Democrats don’t follow your direct orders so you’re going to vote fascist to punish them? Go then — or get your head on straight for the long road ahead.

About Republicans

This is a major party that literally offers no platform or policy agenda at all. No ideas or promises about what it will do or how it will govern — zilch. And its base does not seem fazed in the least.

To Republicans

We see you, Confederates. We don’t trust you.
